According to the National Center of Education Statistics the 2018 – 2019 academic year will see American colleges and universities award over 3.8 million associates, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees and many of those students have augmented their studies with membership in a professional association.
Yet while an overwhelming majority of these young members – 87 percent of Millennials and Gen Z surveyed in Personify’s latest research – report it’s important to be part of an association, and over half report membership is more important than ever, the number of graduates converting from student- to full-membership remains low. According to Marketing General, an average 24 percent of student memberships convert to full membership, down five percentage points from last year. Forty percent of associations report their student-to-full conversion rate is even worse, at 10 percent….or less.
